As a college student, I wasn’t sure how to make an impact without my school being the mediator between my audience and me. As summer of 2019 dawned, however, I felt as though my voice was not being heard no matter how many mask-required rallies I went to. To ensure that my voice or passion for what I stood for was not silenced, I looked towards art. Through paid commissions not only was I able to create a deeper connection with those drawn to my art, but I donated whatever monetary compensation I received to social justice movements and matched it with my own savings. I’ve found that my art is my megaphone. I’ve always used it to make sure my voice is heard, but I realize now that I simply use it to amplify the voice of those I believe must be heard.
